2022 Program Updates
This year, our checklists have limited updates, mostly clerical and minor verbiage adjustments. Over the last few years, we’ve updated / added a number of checklist items based on industry input, code changes, new innovations, and input from our Technical Standards Committee and the Board of Directors. Many of these have created new opportunities to earn points toward BUILT GREEN® certification.
We’re particularly interested in greenhouse gas emission reporting and encourage innovation by awarding points for these. As well, we want builders to consider checklist items related to disaster preparedness and home modifications for aging in place, as well as the Water Efficiency Rating Score (WERS) certification, which is an option for Water Conservation.
Looking ahead, with new codes coming, we anticipate more updates for our 2023 Checklists.
Program checklists are available for:
- Single Family New Construction (includes *Net Zero Energy+)
- Single Family MURB New Construction
- Single Family Whole-House Renovation
- Single Family Room Renovation (Kitchen, Bathroom, and Basement)
- High Density New Construction
- High Density Renovation
- Communities
They are available for download on the BUILT GREEN® Portal. Or, members may obtain one by contacting the office.
**BUILT GREEN® Net Zero Energy+
For projects that reach Net Zero energy (home produces as much energy as it uses) and BUILT GREEN® Platinum, Built Green Canada can recognize this achievement, providing additional eligibility requirements have been met: 1) builder has taken Built Green Net Zero Energy for New Construction training course; and 2) has used an Energy Advisor who has also taken this course.
We know this is a challenging time, with COVID-19 and uncertain economic times, but also with building code changes, escalating costs, supply chain issues, competing schedules, and more. Though we head into 2022 amidst more variants of the infection, we are optimistic that the increasing population of vaccinated people will set the stage for the economy to continue to improve.
