Grand Opening of first multi-family building in the region to achieve BUILT GREEN® Platinum

Victoria, BC—E Y Properties Ltd. is proud to announce the official opening of Herons Landing and The Ardea, two rental only buildings on the corner of Tillicum and Burnside on February 20, 2014.

“The opportunity to build rental only buildings became viable when Minister Coleman announced the new building code in 2009. Being able to use six-storey wood frame construction methods presented us with a workable opportunity”, said Ernie Yakimovich, the visionary behind the project. E Y Properties, a local, three-generation construction and property management company, committed to doing what they do best—building rental only apartments, and in doing so developed the first privately owned rental building in Greater Victoria in 25 years.

Herons Landing and The Ardea have a combined total of 104 suites ranging from Studios to three bedrooms. New tenants—from University students to small families—have snapped up the apartments quickly. “Our apartment is beautiful, we love that it is new and it is in such a convenient location” said Erin Matchett, one of the first residents in the building.

Herons Landing and The Ardea is the first multi-family building in the region to obtain a BUILT GREEN® Platinum rating. “We’re thrilled to see the opening of these two projects and commend EY Properties as well as Farmer Construction for their leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability. This raises the bar for others to aspire in the resident building sector and beyond,” says Jenifer Christenson, Built Green Canada Executive Director.

The Saanich Municipality and the Gorge Tillicum Community Association were supportive of the development from the beginning, being such a prominent corner in the area meant a lot of community consultation. “Saanich is pleased to see this investment in our community—particularly from a local family that is so experienced in building and operating rental housing,” said Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard.
