Water Efficiency Rating Assessment Demonstration: Event
- RSVP: Sarah Vanderlee, svanderlee@builtgreencanada.ca
Background
In response to meeting environmental targets, all orders of government are developing climate mitigation strategies, while for those working in the residential building industry, increased energy performance and other regulations continue to change.
Whether your municipality has adopted the BC Energy Step Code—a tiered, performance-based energy standard that has cited Built Green’s programs as complementary—or is operating with minimum energy performance requirements of 9.36 of building code, Built Green addresses this requirement through the Energy & Envelope portion of its programs. These programs offer a straight-forward way to meet, and stay ahead of, energy-focused building code—and then go beyond for a holistic approach to sustainable building practices, including Materials & Methods, Indoor Air Quality, Ventilation, Waste Management, Water Conservation, and Business Practices. For the builder, this offers a competitive advantage, and for the municipality, this offers a means to enable the preservation of natural resources in their community.
Canada is not immune to water shortages and periods of drought, and freshwater ecosystems are shown to be under stress. However, water conservation in the residential building industry has not received the attention energy efficiency has, though they are both connected and significant. Moreover, reductions in water usage will save energy, further contributing to the decrease in GHGs.
About the Water Efficiency Rating Score
Built Green Canada has partnered with the Green Builder® Coalition to bring The Water Efficiency Rating Score (WERS) to Canada, a system based on measurable parameters, along with a scoring scale of zero to 100, that considers indoor and outdoor water use, as well as reuse via rainwater… read more.
