Annual Municipality Challenge During COVID
Over the last six years, we have issued our annual Municipality Challenge concurrent with National Environment Week and participating municipalities have grown year-over-year. Given the implications municipalities are faced with during this time of COVID, the decision was made not to proceed with this communications initiative; rather, we recognized the day and posted of our decision across our social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram:
For the last six years, alongside #EnvironmentWeek, Built Green Canada has issued a sustainable building challenge to municipalities, & each year more declare #BuiltGreenDay to raise awareness for the importance of #GreenBuilding & #GreenBuilders...
This year, in light of coronavirus, we chose not to make requests of our overburdened municipalities, so instead will thank all those who have supported #BuiltGreenDay in the past, and will continue to highlight the importance of #GreenBuilders #GreenBuilding #HealthyHomes.
Happy #CleanAirDay #BuiltGreenDay during #EnviroWeek2020. Today and every day, @BuiltGreenCan works alongside builders to help progress the residential building industry. #IndoorAirQuality is one of 7 sections of our #greenbuilding programs. #HealthyHomes
Backgrounder:
Each year, municipalities across the country are challenged to proclaim the first Wednesday of June BUILT GREEN® Day. For those that no longer do proclamations, other means of support have been taken. The intent is to raise awareness of the importance of building practices that lead to healthier, more environmentally friendly homes, to challenge municipalities to encourage green building, and to shine a light on builders leading the way. We have received municipal support in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
