Advanced Building Technologies

Our programs encourage the use of advanced building technologies, helping the home work as a system, or a sum of its parts. Looking at everything from site orientation, building materials, HVAC equipment, windows, plumbing, and builder practices is part of how Built Green guides builders towards using the latest technologies to ensure higher durability, lower environmental impact, and increased comfort in BUILT GREEN® builds.

Third-Party Certification

We offer programs for Single Family (including Net Zero+), Single Family Renovations, High Density (including multi-storey, residential tower, and mixed-use), High Density Renovations, Communities, Restorations and a Small Commercial program in pilot. These take a holistic approach that includes energy efficiency as a key focus and go on to other critical aspects of sustainable building—like materials and methods, water conservation, and waste management.

We label homes that have met the compliance requirements around energy performance as well as seven other key areas of sustainability outlined in Built Green's programs, guided by program checklists.

Certification recognizes the authenticity of a project, offering third-party verification to the energy efficiency and green features of the build. There are levels of achievement—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—each requiring incremental increases in both energy performance scores and overall checklist points.

Supporting Our Builders

We are committed to supporting our builders and ensuring the successful certification of their projects. Built Green provides affordable, online training—and we can provide builders with further assistance, including technical advice and on-the-ground support from other experience builders and industry professionals.
