Jayman BUILT Continues Innovative Roadmap

BUILT GREEN, Solar, and now Home Automation

2020 marks the 40th anniversary of Jayman BUILT, and with this milestone, Jayman continues to show its commitment to integrating new technologies that benefit their customers and the environment. Informed by a “how can we be better” approach, Jayman is a company of pioneers, leaders, and constant learners committed to pursuing the best way forward.

From an energy efficiency perspective, Jayman BUILT homes, and specifically their mechanical rooms, had already evolved to industry-leading performance for a large, production builder. For several years already, their standard has included items like triple-pane windows, 96 percent high efficiency two-stage furnaces, high efficiency instant hot water on demand, LED lighting, and a standard HRV system that replenishes fresh air in the home every three hours.

With BUILT GREEN® certification, the performance of their homes receives verification, alongside other key aspects of sustainable building: taking a holistic approach that includes energy and then goes beyond to materials and methods, indoor air quality, ventilation, waste management, water conservation, and business practices—all of their single family homes are built to meet or exceed BUILT GREEN® requirements.

As a strong advocate of energy efficiency and environmental awareness, Jayman BUILT spearheaded the concept of Built Green in 2003. Promoting and researching an environmentally friendly approach to home building, this program focuses on builder training, energy efficient practices, lowered environmental impact, including waste management and water conservation, as well as improved air quality

Jayman BUILT is continually looking at new ways to enhance the performance of their homes, while also balancing affordability. They had been roughing in and experimenting with solar panels for a few years, and in 2019, took a significant step forward by including six solar panels standard in every home they built. This reduced electricity costs by about 25 percent or more for the average homeowner. It was a big step forward. The Government of Alberta subsidy at the time helped them make this decision, as well as a partnership with SkyFire Energy to enable this strategy.

Meanwhile, plans were underway for Jayman BUILT’s 40th anniversary. They challenged themselves to take their innovations to the next level: the mechanical room, and now solar, provided an optimal platform to add smart home technology. “We had ‘great bones’ here—the heart and lungs of our homes were solid,” says Jayman BUILT’s President and COO, Dave Desormeaux. “We asked ourselves, how do you leverage this equipment to further optimize our homeowner’s energy efficiency, safety, and health, together with ways to live smarter? Smart Home Technology.”

And with this—in parallel to their anniversary—Jayman Smart Home is now standard on all 2020 single family homes. The All Home Automation is controlled with a new Amazon Alexa Device each homebuyer receives, includes Amazon Echo Show 5, Ring Video Doorbell with motion detection and two-way voice, one-ring rear porch floodlight cam, Ecobee Smart Thermostat with Alexa voice control, one Smart August Lock Pro Connect Wi-Fi, and five TP-Link Kasa Smart Switches.

Keeping an eye on the future has enabled Jayman BUILT to set their own course—to find a new way, rather than focus on the competition. As a result, they’re at the forefront of advancing technologies that customers want.

During their 40th anniversary year, with every home Jayman builds and sells, they’re donating $1,000 to be shared between Alberta charities, including MS Society Research, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, HomeSpace Society and Homeward Trust Edmonton.
